Oct. 22 pro-life round-up

A federal district court has sided with West Virginians For Life in challenges to West Virginia election law and restrictions on political speech.

Missouri has a Choose Life license plate, thanks to pro-lifers who refused to give up. It looks like Arizona should have something similar soon. Ah, here we go… here’s some history on Choose Life plates from Florida, which led the way, according to the article. Also from the Choose Life, Inc. website, here’s a map of the United States showing which states have Choose Life plates, and the status of efforts in other states.

Pope Tells Doctors: Love and Honor the Dignity of Incurable Patients. (one key point: ‘a cure-crazed attitude brings the temptation of “abandoning the patient when it is seen that a noticeable result cannot be obtained.”‘) In other words, just because you can’t fix something doesn’t mean you should kill the patient or treat him as no longer human. (You don’t want to hear this, but according to a so-called modern Hippocratic Oath taught at some medical schools, it’s considered OK to kill a patient as long as you don’t take the responsibility lightly.)

One-Issue Politics, One-Issue Marriage, and the Humane Society. An oldie but a goodie by John Piper, via Megan (in a comment at a previous post).

Via Michelle (in a comment at a previous post), British baby survives abortion attempt and is now a welcomed member of the family. The mother had gone in for an abortion because she was reeling from the death of an earlier child and, as she put it, didn’t know how to cope with the prospect of losing another one. (Grief and fear do mess with the ability to think, don’t they?)

Dear Friend,

Thanks to you and thousands more, the Choose Life license plate in the 17 states where it is for sale, have raised $9.4 million for the cause of life and adoption.

Keep sharing the word.

Jill and I are the National Publicity Coordinators for the Choose Life license plate. We have been full time volunteers since February 1997. None of the funds come to Choose Life, Inc., they all go to the life affirming agencies in the 17 states.

Twenty-two states now have the plate approved. The other 5 are working on the administrative things necessary to get them manufactured in their state.

Another Court Victory!
The Choose Life license plate won another court victory.

The U.S. Supreme Court has denied Arizona’s appeal and now the state has to produce the Choose Life license plate. This means we now have 22 states that have approved the plate.

Father Frank Pavone, head of Priests for Life, commented that “Today the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to let stand a lower court ruling allowing the issuance of “Choose Life” license plates in Arizona is a victory against censorship.”

“Only a pro-abortion zealot would consider the words ‘Choose Life’ to be controversial,” states Fr. Pavone. “Abortion profiteers and their political supporters are obviously threatened by the thought that someone, somewhere, sometime might choose an alternative to abortion. Now that the Arizona government’s pro-abortion censors have been rebuked by the courts for the last time, drivers can finally exercise their free speech rights and choose ‘Choose Life’ license plates.”

Choose Life License Plate Frame

Choose Life, Inc. had to purchase a large number of Choose Life license plate frames, white with red lettering, and Choose Life scarves to get a good volume price. We are offering to pass these savings on to you if you will buy them in bulk quantities.

Choose Life Scarf

Choose Life, Inc. is offering them in minimum lots of 100 (mix & match.) The cost will be $2.95 for the frames and $4.95 for the scarves, plus shipping. The frames sell for $10 each on our website and the scarves are $15 each.

This offer is even below our wholesale costs, but in an effort to get as many of these items out before the public, we have cut costs to the bone.

This inventory reduction offer is valid until our inventory is back in balance, on a first come, first serve basis. Order now to take advantage of this opportunity. To see product and place and order, click, then click Product Store. All orders totaling 100 or more of scarves and/or frames will be shipped at the above prices. The email you get back automatically with your order will show the retail price, but I will call you personally with the actual price when I call to get your charge card info.

More States Go Yellow
Click on this link to see the “big picture” from our website. This year Choose Life made two trips to meet with teams of volunteers who want to bring the Choose Life license plate to their state. As a result, many more states are colored yellow. This means they have an active team working on the plate and we expect most of them will be applying for a Choose Life license plate in 2009.

Yellow states as of October 2008: NC, VA, DE, NH, KS, NE, IA, WA, AK, CO, WY, UT, NV, and TX. We are still looking for team leaders in RI, VT, ME, MI, ID, and OR.
An Interesting Aside…
Jim Minnery, Director of the Alaska Policy Council, invited us to Alaska to help start an Alaska Choose Life effort and organization. He arranged several formation meetings with great success. He also said he could probably get us an appointment with Governor Palin, but when we got there, we found her aide said she was too busy at the time to meet. Shortly after we returned to the lower 48 Sarah Palin was nominated for Vice President on the Republican ticket. I guess we have to forgive her for being too busy. Still, I would love to meet her in person. Maybe another day!
To All Our Readers Who Consider Themselves People of Faith
On November 4, 2008, when you vote, if you are a person of faith, make sure you know the candidates’ stand on the greatest issue facing people of faith today.

No, it is not the budget or even the war in Iraq. People of faith will need to decide how they will answer if God asks this question after their life is over.

“Why did you decide that the lives of the unborn children I gave you were not worth saving?”

Dear Russ and Jill, Thanks for writing, but next time if you could keep it bit shorter and not offer anything for sale in the comment itself it would fit a little better with local comment protocol.

If Jill would like to be added to the blogroll, please see the Oct. 9 blogroll sign-up post.

My husband sent me this cartoon this morning. I thought it was appropriate.
